Emilio entered foster care when he was 5. By the time he was 18 and aged out, he had been in nearly 20 different foster care homes. He got his Court-Appointed Special Advocate at 10. Here is Emilio to tell you what his CASA volunteer meant to him.
What Emilio needed that day he ran away was an ally. What he got was the police and angry adults. You heard him say his CASA got there nearly as fast as the cops did, and she did. When she arrived she knelt next to him, hugged him, and whispered in his ear (get close to the mic and whisper loudly) “Next time, wear shoes and a jacket!”
Thank you to Pamela Kendall, Emilio’s CASA Volunteer.
